Description
1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Turbo
Landau Roof Style
Turbocharged 231 V6 (Prototype Buick LD5 "Fireball" Grand National Engine)
One of only 13,839 produced.
232,000 miles. (Almost all of them maintenanced by my late father, an aircraft mechanic.)

This car has been my baby since my college days. I've always intended to fix it up and show it, but unemployment has made it necessary to sell to pay the mortgage.

It's definitely a project car. The body has no collision damage, but water stood under the vinyl roof fabric and rusted the gutters. The paint is failing in spots and the plastic caps over the tail-lights need replacing. I was told that $600 would bring the body up to perfect. The interior needs some TLC, too, mostly details like trim and such. There's a really good stereo / cassette/ CD changer, but it's not getting power. Back in '94 some yahoos broke into her and removed the radio with a crowbar. I repaired the dash and installed a new stereo, but I'm no good with wiring.

She runs, but after having been undriven for too long the cork head gasket dried out and cracked. She still runs fairly quietly, (except for the trademark Monte Carlo tappet tick) but there's lots of smoke and compression is way down so top speed's about 40. I really suggest towing her instead of trying to drive her off.

She's got a few interesting features. She's got a PA system under the hood and brush guards over the headlights. The tires are very low mileage and wider than usual (I got tired of getting stuck in the sand when I went to the beach). She's also got a good trailer hitch and heavy-duty shocks for hauling.

With all that, I know that $1000 seems a bit high. But I'm sacrificing a dream here, and if I can't at least get a month's mortgage out of her, I'd just as soon hold on.
